I'm inclined to agree. I'll be just fine with my iphone for years to come.

Same here. I find the facial recognition is a bit... creepy. And my 7 is perfect for me and still works well... I don't want to upgrade.

I actually hate facial recognition. Buh bye whatever shred of privacy we have left if you want to use social media. Hell... even if you don't.

As much as I love computers and tech stuff, I don't have the burning need to have the latest and greatest. All of the cell phones are the same and the little minor differences aren't going to cause me to spend $900 on a new phone.

My "new" phone is a model behind. I wasn't willing to pay twice as much for a "new phone" who's only real difference was a number after it's name.

Once you get past a certain point it's hard to add many perks to the utility of the phone. I have a friend who came from a poor family and she just gets by, as a gift I gave her an iPhone 5c which is basically an iPhone 5 with a polycarbonate body and a slightly larger battery. The phone is fast enough that it isn't a problem for most applications. It's noticeable turning it on though.

The iPhone 5/5c is 2012 technology, still works alright.

Smartphones are so ubiquitous now and 2-3 generations back are still good enough and now cheap enough that no one can't really have access to them. If you can scrounge $80-100 you should be able to find a decent smartphone.

Most companies will iterate simply because that's the only way to make money if they don't have a subscription model. One could argue for devices like the iPhone 4/4s not to make stuff for them as it is harder due to limited hardware limitations, very limited user base, and those using them are doing so because they don't have any money to spend on anything else.

    • Latest update cool fort some things, yawn for others. I'm waiting for X before I upgrade my 6. I usually only skip one, but X looks much cooler than 8. There's not going to be a 9, but I'll just hold my 6 upside down ;)

    • I personally just hate shopping for most things. Buying online is so much easier and you don't have to deal with people.

    • Not sure about anyone else but I've been watching the news about America's retail industry and how it is all crashing down. Watching malls close is just mind blowing; Last week Toys R Us declared bankruptcy.

Here is where the problem is.... Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 just came out on DVD, and my local Target store has them for $22. My personal price point for buying a DVD is $10 - anything more than that and I'll wait. I know if I wait a few months it will be $10. However, on Ebay I was able to buy a brand new sealed copy for $5.99 including shipping. Why would I spend $22 in the store when I can spend $6 and not have to leave my house?

    • Everything is fine. Skype is never fucked up, if it is it's you, not Skype overall.

    • I was never a fan of Bush. But I have never ever been to utterly disappointed in a US President. It's stunning.

    • ... dwarfs my outrage for bush 2. Ten years ago I didn't think it was possible. Even with his admin being full of war criminals and all.

    • Well... I'm at the point now where my 13 y.o. son can pretty much beat me at anything... whether the game calls for precision, speed, execution, etc. He now has the edge. I'm about equal with him for endurance and strategy... but... big deal LOL.

    • I always cry a little bit when I see a car. My truck was the worst. Not sure why but one day I woke up and decided I wanted a truck although I had always been a sports car person all my life. Even though I am not a auto mechanic I went out and bought a 1990 Chey Stepside and spent a few years fixing it up. It was jacked up and had huge tires, four wheel drive, had "power windows and AC" and power locks but that was about it... The truck had bench seating. It was so unlike me but I love that truck.

I sold it to buy my kid her first car, a convertible.

    • My older brother was a huge fan of VW Beetles and buses. His last two vehicles were buses. He also loved to fly fish, so we took the bus on some jagged logging roads to get to the rivers: driving like we was on a highway. Man, they could take a licking. His bus before his last one was built in the 60s. Not as pretty as those, but served his purpose. He loved it the most, but wanted something more modern with all the mod cons, so they sold it. They cried a little when they parted with it. With a vehicle came his log book. He logged everything like repairs etc. We was a chief engineer with the BC Ferries, so it was fitting. VW rocks: especially the older bugs and buses.

    • Problem is that many, if not most, email spammers are located in jurisdictions that do not respect laws like the CAN-SPAM Act. But, this is great heads up to all of us here. Especially including physical address. I have complying the elements of the act before the act was implemented - or even on the drawing board. I urge everyone listening to do the same. There are serious consequences. Plus, nowadays you will have better success in your mailing if you do follow the rules. People are getting smarter - I hope, knock on wood.

Like everyone I probably get close to 100. Mine is a combination of the ones I've opted in to like adult, tech, legal, fitness, etc. and with about 1/2 of the ones I receive being spam where I either delete straight away or try to opt out.

I really only pay hard attention to about 10 newsletters... one of them being YNOT's, another being from a lawyer friend of mine who puts out great info. on legal defense, and another from the owner of my gym who does a fantastic job with work out tips and recipes. I read that one in full every day.

      How about you?

Not really. I usually look for the unsubscribe link since I never signup for newsletters.
